About this property

Contemporary Oceanfront Cottage Offering Private Beaches, Trails and Gardens

The Rose Cottage was rebuilt in 2009 with West Coast Contemporary style. The cottage overlooks the ocean on the south and west side. It is part of a park-like six-acre oceanfront property known as the Seaward Estate. Historically, Seaward was one of five fishing trap sites in Sooke until the 1950s.

Seaward provides many beautiful natural landscapes, including two beaches (with thousands of feet of picturesque coastline), west coast forest and wood trails. It remains one of the best oceanfront properties in the Greater Victoria Region. As more and more oceanfront properties being subdivided into small lots and redeveloped, a large original oceanfront property, such as the Seaward that preserved all its natural beauty and historical value, is truly rare to find.

The Rose Cottage consists of over 1400 square feet of space. The most recent renovation was done in 2019. The cottage offers a number of impressive extras: floor to ceiling windows on the south wall overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains, a unique wooden ceiling using Sitka spruce from the property, an open concept kitchen, dining and living areas with in-floor heating under slate tiles, an extra-large loft bedroom with a king-size bed and a powder room attached. The second bedroom with a queen-size bed is on the main floor. There is a sofa bed in the living room and there is a full bathroom on this level as well. In addition, seven massive cedar logs serve as pillars and tie the cottage design together adding architectural interest.

There are a patio and a large private lawn in front of the cottage accessible by sliding doors on the main floor. The lawn is ideal for guests with smaller children or/and pets. The patio provides an outdoor seating area, a dining table, and a BBQ. Outside of the main entrance, there is a beautiful garden that offers colours for all seasons. The Sunset trail links the cottage directly to the West Beach access point. A guest once took a photo from the Sunset trail towards the Rose cottage, and she wrote: “Every time when I walk back from the West Beach, I follow the trail in the wood and it leads me to the cottage. It reminds me that Little Red Riding Hood is walking through a magical wood. At the end of the trail, there is the grandma’s little cottage”.

There is a beach house on the East Beach that is most favourable by children as well by many adults. Of course, guests love to spend time on the beaches. The East Beach has a flatter pebble surface for walking, and the West Beach has more giant rocks, small coves, and secret hiding spots for adventure. Many guests find those forest trails are fun to discover. Guests like to sit on the benches at the end of Sunset trail and Otter trail to read a book, to watch wildlife, or to enjoy the sunset. Many others love to have a picnic with a bottle of wine on the picnic deck at the end of the Orca trail.

For people who need to be connected with the outside world, the cottage provides free Wi-Fi. A 50” smart TV offers cable channels, Netflix, YouTube and many other programs. On a chilled night, there is a wood stove for warm and cozy comfort. If you are a star and sky lover, you may want to hide-out in the cove on the West Beach in a very dark and clear night, and to watch the magnificent Milky-way crossing over the Juan De Fuca Strait and disappearing into the Olympic Mountains.

The Seaward Estate consists of Rose Cottage (Vrbo 1333347), Rowan Cottage (Vrbo 1340568), and Creekside Cottage (Vrbo 2229506). The Rose Cottage is about 200 feet away from both Rowan Cottage and Creekside Cottage. All cottages' windows are facing the ocean. There are no windows directly facing each other in order to provide guests with privacy.

Cute cottage in a great location
We stayed for 3 nights in mid-February. The cottage is easy to find, just far enough from Sooke to feel "out in the country" but close enough for convenient groceries, etc. The cottage is very comfortable, with nice beds, all the kitchen gear you need for cooking, wonderful views, especially from the loft bedroom, and a heated bathroom floor. Everything was spotlessly clean. The grounds are very nice - fairly private grassy area just outside the patio, plus trails to two beaches. The west beach was inaccessible when we were there due to the steps having been washed out in a storm, but the east beach (with beach house) was very nice. Some reviews mentioned highway noise, but it was not intrusive in my opinion. We would gladly rent this cottage again (or one of the other two in the complex.)

Beautiful!
This was our 2nd time to stay here. This time we invited a couple of friend groups and we each had one of the 3 cottages - so we had the whole place to ourselves. What a treat!! Such a great location - jumping off spot to so many activities in the area. Very much recommend!!

I wish I could give a low rating so it would not be difficult to book for the dates I would like. Wally, the host is great to work with, Ray, the maintenance man is a joy, Kristi, the manager is great. And as the saying goes in real estate location, location, you can not beat the location.
