Tranquil Local
We had a wonderful time staying in this tranquil local with amazing views! The modern home had a large, well-equipped kitchen with windows overlooking the water. The bedrooms were spacious and not on top of each other so everyone had their own space. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, whale watching, salmon fishing, visiting farmers’ markets, and gazing at wildlife- all in Sooke.

Stunning property in an amazing location
I stayed at this property with my husband and two kids (9 and 11), and sister and brother in law with their kids (8 and 10). We rented both the main house and the attached unit and had more than enough space. The view is just incredible—as others have said you can see families of otters (who come right onto the deck!), seals, and countless birds. The kitchen is beautiful and well stocked, the beds are comfortable, plenty of towels, and the media room was fantastic for movie nights. Two minute drive to two grocery stores and a drug store, 10 minute drive to Sooke Potholes (amazing place to swim), 25 minute drive to French beach (both sandy and rocky with nice tidepooling), and a 90 minute drive to Botanical Beach (one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited). From Sooke you can do whale watching, kayaking and SUP rental, and salmon fishing. Oh, hiking in East Sooke Regional Park was also a highlight. We did all of these things and all were amazing experiences. We were also really content with just relaxing at this house because of the stunning views and huge windows. We fell in love with Vancouver Island and with Sooke, in particular. The property manager was very responsive. The dishwasher broke upon our first usage, but understandably couldn’t be repaired during our stay. These things happen. (The only strange thing was being accused of bringing a dog with us, but that was cleared up.) My favorite house I’ve ever rented through Vrbo (we travel a lot). Amazing.

Sooke Sanctuary
Gordon’s house on the water in Sooke was large, clean and comfortable. It struck my wife and I as being a great vacation spot for a family. The house has a fantastic view of Sooke harbor and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. We had the company of 3 harbor seals swimming around and sunning themselves on the abandoned dock just to the right of the house during the entire stay. If you got up early enough, sea otters also visited the water below. Would definitely stay again if given the opportunity. By the way, the town of Sooke is just down the road from the house. A little further down Sooke Road is Wild Mountain Food and Drink, the best restaurant we experienced on our two-week trip.

Very beautiful….. book this now!
This house is exactly as it looks on the site. Really beautiful! Very clean, and lots of soft towels and nice bed linens. The kitchen was fantastic. Every possible gadget, pots and pans, strainers, cutting boards and more! We loved relaxing at home for breakfast and dinners. Set in a very peaceful neighborhood, easy check in and check out. Property owner was very responsive to any inquiry. We would love to come back during warmer weather to enjoy more outdoor activities so close by.

My wife and I used to travel west to the Vancouver area Islands with our two children when they were small. We explored the beaches and tidal pools enjoying morning coffee while the kids beach combed, went fishing and hiking, and kayaking. The ocean always has wildlife activity geese, otters, seal and a lot of crab, shrimp and fish.

We rented a house out here in Sooke in 2000 after we completed a week of trekking on the West Coast Trail - and it was a luxurious end to a great experience.

Why they chose this property

We wanted an area close to a city, yet away from it all.

We selected this property because of its spectacular view and quietness, and its location: it's just a short walk to serious coffee, a number of restaurants and groceries.

We just built (sep. 2012) a contemporary west coast style inviting house designed by a Victoria architect: it is quite an improvement to the old house torn down in 2007.

We wanted a clean, efficient and strong house. It is warm and cosy, energy efficient, and built to current seismic standards.

What makes this property unique

WOW, is the word heard most often when people come for a visit. We have a truly stunning view from most rooms in the house and the guest house. You can walk down the 25 steps and explore the beach in low tide. Or sit out in comfort on the decks looking right into the water.
On clear nights you can watch the moon rise and travel, accross the Sooke basin, its reflecting lights playing on the often still waters of the basin.

Handy but away from it all.
